The University of Georgia Cooperative Extension office in Dougherty County provides educational programs and assistance to the citizens of Dougherty County on a wide variety of subjects. The office is located in downtown Albany, Georgia at 125 Pine Avenue, Suite 100, in The Riverfront Resource Center. The primary objective of the Extension Service is to extend the resources and the expertise of the University to the public. The subject matters addressed at the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension office include: 4-H and Youth, Nutrition Education, Family and Consumer Sciences, and Agriculture and Natural Resources.
Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS): The FACS programming efforts in Dougherty County have focused on Diabetes Education, Child Care Provider Education, Health and Wellness, and Food Safety and Nutrition education.
Agriculture and Natural Resources (ANR): ANR programming in Dougherty County provides researched- based information on a diverse array of topics to residents of Dougherty County. Specific areas of programming include improving production techniques and profitability for the three primary agricultural commodities in the county; pecan, cotton and peanut. In addition, the program focuses on issues related to water quality and quantity, management of home landscapes, and natural resources management.
4-H and Youth Development: 4-H and youth programs reach approximately 1,500 fifth through twelfth graders annually. Base programming for the Dougherty County 4-H office includes summer camp, monthly in-school club meetings, cloverleaf District Project Achievement, state congress, and community service.
The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP): This program is federally funded and is designed to help increase the nutritional awareness of limited resource families. For more information or to speak to an agent contact the Extension office.
